What is the CHOICE Expert Rating

CHOICE Expert rating

This is the product's overall performance score, based on key tests conducted by our industry experts in the CHOICE labs.

Good points

• Removable mattress cover.
• Lightweight.

Bad points

• Serious safety failure: Neither the cot nor the supplied mattress has a base of rigid material; and neither the cot nor the supplied mattress has a firm flat base of its own, creating a risk of suffocation.
• Minor safety failures: 1. The mattress seperates from the cot when tipped. 2. Certain sections of the cot can be partially or almost fully disassembled by opening a combination of zippers; there is concern that a child may be able to open them and get out of the cot, or any resulting opening may pose a head/neck entrapment hazard
• Requires assembly and disassembly, not just unfolding and folding; with several frame and fabric components to put together and pull apart, most of which require some effort to insert and release.

In response to our findings, the manufacturer has stated that they have third party verification of compliance to the mandatory standard.

Based on a combination of performance (70%) and ease of use (30%). Our observations are based on the latest voluntary Australian standard AS/NZS 2195:2010. Recommended portacots pass all safety requirements such as suffocation risks. Lower-scoring models (in the 60–69% range) are worth considering if they meet all key safety requirements. They may fail some minor points such as finger entrapment hazards.
