PriceExpand to view more details.
Purchase price at time of testing. Note that prices may change quickly in this category and can vary significantly between vendors, so shop around. Prices will also vary if a model is available as refurbished. Where a tablet has a keyboard (even if optional) the price shown includes the cost of the tablet and keyboard.

The operating system (OS) that came with the computer (updated/patched to latest version before testing).
The device can be used in laptop mode (with keyboard) or tablet mode (touchscreen only) with or without a stylus.
If the laptop has a touchscreen. Note that not all touchscreen laptops are convertible (2-in-1) models that can be used as tablets.
Screen size (in)
Measured diagonally, in inches.

Ease of use score
The ease of use score takes into account the comfort of the keyboard and touchpad, as well as build quality, balance on lap, sturdiness on desk, noise, heat, and ports and slots. All ease of use evaluation was conducted under the laptop's native operating system.

Performance score is based on analysis of the results of several benchmarking tools taking in CPU, storage, and Wi-Fi performance.
enter value/s in increments of i between 45 and 94
Display score is based on a quality assessment that takes into account the screen's reflections, angles of view, colour rendering, brightness and contrast, and video playback.

Tablet use score
Indicates how the device performs as a tablet (without keyboard) rather than as a laptop, for applicable models.
In addition to the same CPU, graphics, storage, and Wi-Fi tests used for laptops we also consider form factor (45%), display screen (40%), and battery life (15%) from a tablet-user point of view. This score does not contribute to the Overall score (as non-convertible laptops are not included). Note that some devices may score better as tablets than laptops and vice-versa.
To compare the Tablet Use Scores with Laptop Use Scores, sort by 'Tablet use score' using the 'Sorted by': dropdown menu at top-right, next to the Compare all products button.

Battery life score
Battery life score is based on a heavy usage scenario with screen set to 100% brightness and Wi-Fi enabled with continuous high-definition video playback.

Weight of laptop (kg)
Weight of laptop (kg) without power supply/plug/cord.

RAM (random access memory) is the main memory used by the CPU and is measured in gigabytes (GB). These days 4GB of RAM is considered a starting point for most laptop or desktop PCs, while 8GB is common. Generallly speaking, more RAM is better.
enter value/s in increments of i between 3 and 32
Storage capacity (GB)
The nominal storage capacity of the built-in storage drive, which may be either a hard disk drive (HDD) or solid-state drive (SSD).

A Similar model is identical in most aspects except for a few. This means that a majority of its test results are identical so you can reasonably expect to get the same results from the model we tested, but for those aspects which aren't identical, we'll note these as "Not Tested" in the Compare tables.
A Tested model refers to a model that is still current and available in the Australian market. You should be able to order this model through your local retailer, or find it online.
These models can't be found in retailers or online or are no longer manufactured. You may still find these models on second hand websites, or in second hand dealers. Test methods may change over time, so criteria which can't be directly compared will contain an N/A.
An Identical model is exactly that. Performance characteristics will be identical and the only difference will be something trivial such as colour, which won't have an impact on performance.
These are models we haven't yet tested but that are available.
