What is the CHOICE Expert Rating

CHOICE Expert rating

This is the product's overall performance score, based on key tests conducted by our industry experts in the CHOICE labs.

Good points

• A separate baby rocker.

Bad points

• Serious safety failures: 1. The mattress is not firm enough, creating a possible suffocation risk if a child rolls onto their side or front. 2. The cot doesn't have adequate mesh breathable zones creating a suffocation risk if a child rolls face first against it. 3. The cot tips over too easily. 4. The height of the barrier around the change table is insufficient, creating a risk a child could fall out.
• Minor safety failures: 1.The gaps between the top edge of the bassinet corners and the adjacent cot corners could trap a child's limb. 2. The gaps between the edge of the side and corners of the change table, and the adjacent top rail and corners of the cot could trap a child's limb. 3. The cot's wheel's do not have brakes and they rotate more than 180 degrees.
• Very minor safety failure: There are pinching points at the corners where the top rails are joined that are a hazard to the person folding/unfolding the cot.
• Hard to pack because of so many items even though the bag is roomy; feels very heavy and bulky

Recommended portacots pass all safety requirements such as suffocation risks. Lower-scoring models (in the 60–69% range) are worth considering if they meet all key safety requirements. They may fail some minor points such as finger entrapment hazards.
