I first joined CHOICE way back in 1995 while completing my Bachelor of Science degree. I spent the first five years like a bunny, bouncing from the laundry lab and kitchen lab to the general lab and fridge lab testing all sorts of products. This put me in good stead to become a content producer for the next 15 years, project managing and writing about household products with a focus on major appliances.
Being conscious about making environmentally and sustainably sound decisions, my passion has always been about passing on the right advice from all perspectives, from looking at the pros and cons of a product and how well it works, through to its environmental impact. In that time I became a household appliance whizz!
In 2015 I left CHOICE to spend the next six years focussing on being a mum and pursuing other interests, such as learning and educating others on reducing the chemical load in our homes, particularly when it comes to cleaning. But the CHOICE bug was always lurking in the background when I did project management, content creation, database updates and the like. It was just a matter of time before I was back.
In 2021 when the opportunity popped up like a piece of bread from a toaster, I was keen to join our resident home economist Fiona Mair in the CHOICE kitchen lab. I assist Fiona in cooking up delicious food while testing kitchen appliances, help conduct taste tests, and refine and design test methods for new products in order to arm consumers with the right information to make informed purchasing decisions. Of course sampling all of the food can be a perk, but after the 100th scone… not so much!
