Need to know
- The 2025 EOFY sales are underway and major retailers are cutting prices on a broad range of products
- Brands are heavily promoting their discounts, but some of these are on items that performed poorly in CHOICE tests
- We've also seen decent savings on some items we recommend, so it's important to check CHOICE reviews before you buy
The 2025 end of the financial year (EOFY) sales are here and retailers and manufacturers are dropping prices on lots of products in the lead-up to June 30.
In the last few weeks, we've seen major retailers such as Harvey Norman and Amazon, and manufacturers like Samsung and Dyson, cut prices on their stock by as much as 70%.
Every day brings more deals, and while we have seen quality products going for cheaper than normal, EOFY can also be a time when retailers try to offload unpopular products, leading to dud items getting mixed in among bargain stock.
In fact, some of the most attention-grabbing markdowns we've seen so far this year are on products that have performed poorly in CHOICE testing.
So how can you dodge getting caught up in the hype and avoid ending up with a poor performer?
As an independent expert tester of many of the products being slapped with EOFY markdowns, CHOICE is uniquely able to shine a light on the actual quality of what's being sold.
Read on to find some of the best deals we've spotted so far on products our experts have tested and recommend (available exclusively for CHOICE members). But first, we'll reveal the deals we've seen that look like attempts by retailers to clear out dud stock.

Poor-performing products in the EOFY sales
Even at their lower EOFY prices, many of these products are outperformed by cheaper alternatives in our tests.
However, some of these items could have unique strengths that suit your circumstances, so check our reviews for the breakdown of the pros and cons we found for each.
Shonky smartphones
This EOFY, Harvey Norman has been cutting prices on Motorola G04 and G24 smartphones, but these rock-bottom rates only serve to match the phones' rock-bottom performance.
With its poor camera, sound quality and screen display, as well as all-round subpar performance, the G04 came last in our latest smartphone test.
The G24, meanwhile, performed a little better, but was still deemed fourth-worst by our expert testers, who found its screen difficult to use.
A halting heater
Another EOFY deal best left out in the cold is Kogan's 50% discount on its 2300W 11 Fin Oil Heater.
This Kogan heater has featured in the sales, but we don't recommend it.
You'll be in for a chilly winter's night if you settle for this appliance – our testers gave it two hours to warm a small room by 10°C, but it couldn't even manage that, something other heaters can achieve in less than 30 minutes.
Accordingly, we gave it a rating of just 54% – even at the markdown rates we've seen it at, it's still outperformed by cheaper options.
In any case, we suggest you avoid buying electronics from Kogan altogether.
The company has received multiple CHOICE Shonky Awards for bad products and poor customer service and was rated as the second-worst appliance retailer in a survey of 3500 CHOICE supporters.
A disappointing air fryer
This discounted Tefal may be XXL on size, but it scores small on performance.
Tefal's Dual Easy Fry XXL air fryer may have had its price cut at various retailers, including David Jones, Bing Lee and Big W earlier this month, but you could still do better.
This model came close to last in our latest air fryer review, with our kitchen experts marking it down for its poor job cooking chips and nuggets.
With air fryers often featuring in EOFY markdowns, you'll probably be able to find a better performer costing the same or less. See our latest review to get the best options.
A stick vacuum that sucks in a bad way
Dyson makes some good stick vacuum cleaners, but the Omni-Glide isn't one of them.
It's designed to be used on hard floors, but it was outclassed even in this category in our latest stick vac review.
Poor cleaning performance, combined with lackluster battery life and a small collection bin, landed it second-last place in our latest test.
We've recently seen it discounted on Dyson's website, but at EOFY you'll likely be able to find a good deal on something better.
A terrible TV
Harvey Norman is currently trying to shift the Toshiba 43C350NP TV out of its stores, but shoppers are the ones who should be moving on.
A lesson of how "clearance" tags should sometimes be treated with suspicion, this 43-inch LCD model disappointed when we put it through its paces.
An over-saturated 4K image, occasional sound distortion and an incredibly slow start-up time of 20 seconds gave our testers no choice but to give it a CHOICE Expert Rating of only 69%, equal third-worst out of 43 models.
