Kim Gilmour is a Senior project officer. She manages a range of product tests such as coffee machines, stick vacuums, bassinets, high chairs and ovens, which are all tested in our in-house labs. Kim’s work gives people access to robust, independent advice and helps consumers make informed decisions about their purchases. Her work also helps to keep manufacturers in check, by regularly exposing product flaws which can result in better and safer products. Prior to CHOICE, Kim spent 16 years working as a technology journalist in Sydney and London. With several years as a senior researcher/writer at our UK sister organisation, Which? Kim has authored how-to technology books such as Spotify for Dummies and Digital Photography for the Older and Wiser. I am a test coordinator at CHOICE, which means my job is to put all different kinds of products to the test. From babies' products like cots and strollers to small appliances like electric blankets and even pillows, I go through them all to separate the safe from the not-so-safe and determine which products are better bang for your buck. I hold a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sydney, and prior to joining CHOICE I was in Hong Kong working in other international laboratories and running test programs for major brand clients. Being able to work at CHOICE means I can not only put my expertise to good use, but I can do it for a better cause as well. On top of my work at CHOICE, I'm involved in several Standards Australia technical committees on key product safety standards, including toys, children's furniture, and prams and strollers. Working in the laboratory, tearing down babies' products, and looking at safety standards was not on my list of future careers when I was at university, but I'm happy I made the choice. LinkedIn

Antonio Bonacruz tests children's products in the CHOICE labs to determine the products' compliance to safety standards. He also tests toys and other products for manufacturers, importers, retailers and government regulatory bodies. Antonio has a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Prior to joining CHOICE, he worked as a Design Engineer specialising in software and firmware for industrial machines used in the manufacture of electronic components. He also spent a number of years as a planning engineer for an appliance manufacturer in the Philippines. Antonio is actively involved in several Standards Australia technical committees on key product safety standards. He also sits on consumer-focused committees including conformity assessment, consumer product management systems, and consumer policy. Antonio has represented Australia in international standards work on the ISO committee TC 181 on the safety of toys for almost 20 years, and more recently on the ISO committee TC 310 on childcare articles.
