We give each oven a CHOICE score made up of:
Our home economist Fiona Mair and test coordinator Chantelle Dart cook a selection of meals to test each oven’s ability to perform over a range of temperatures, times and functions. The performance score accounts for 60% of the overall score.
Fiona and Chantelle check how easy the controls are to use, the clarity of the labels, using the grill and oven shelves, and cleaning the inside and outside of the oven. The ease of use score accounts for 40% of the overall score.

Currently, our experts test wall ovens from brands including: AEG, Asko, Beko, Bosch, DeLonghi, Electrolux, Everdure, Fisher & Paykel, Haier, Ikea, Inalto, Miele, Neff, Omega, Samsung, Siemens, Smeg and Westinghouse.
Our priority is testing the models you’ll see in stores and major online retailers. To do this, we check current market data to see what’s most popular. We’ll also test models that a lot of members have requested.
We have our own on-site kitchen lab, staffed by our home economist Fiona Mair and test coordinator Chantelle Dart. Fiona has developed all our recipes for testing kitchen appliances, and has cooked more than 8000 scones, 4000 chickens, 1000 meringues and 500 pizzas in her 20 years at CHOICE. Along with Chantelle, Fiona puts ovens through their paces by cooking scones, meringues, roast chicken and pizza, and toasting bread. By doing this, they can test the oven’s ability to perform over a range of temperatures, times and functions.
Our expert testers – Fiona Mair and Chantelle Dart – have many years of combined experience testing kitchen appliances.
Unlike other product review sites, we don’t accept free test models from manufacturers. This allows us to be independent and review without interference. Instead, we buy products anonymously from a variety of retailers, then bring them into our labs. This means we get what you’d get, and can be sure the model hasn’t been potentially ‘tweaked’ for better performance.
