The results for the 2008 reliability survey are in — the good news is that there’s been an improvement in the reliability of some products, but there are a few disappointing figures as well. It seems the speed with which we’re turning over products could be shortening the product life cycle. Our next survey will be published in late 2010.

Just over 4300 subscribers took part in the 2008 CHOICE Computer Reliability Survey which asked users to rate the reliability of four mainstream product types in normal, everday use. We surveyed subscribers on their:

Our findings

The results provided a revealing snapshot into the reliability of these popular products. We found:

  • Product reliability and brand loyalty is still high with most people saying they would buy the same brand again.
  • Digital cameras and printers were the most reliable of the four products.
  • Desktop computers were the least reliable in the survey.
  • Respondents with printers and digital cameras were most likely to buy the same brand again.
