01.Introduction
Test results for 10 NiMH rechargeable AA batteries
Rechargeable batteries are the most economical and environmentally-friendly batteries for high-drain, frequently used gadgets, but until now you’ve had to spend several hours charging them before their first use – and who wants to wait that long before using their new toy?
Fortunately, several manufacturers have recently released pre-charged or “ready to use” rechargeable batteries, which can be used straight out of the pack. These currently have lower capacities than many other rechargeable batteries (they’re 2000–2100mAh rather than 2500–2700mAh, for example).
We put 10 rechargeable AA batteries to the test to see which ones last longest, can be recharged the most often, and don’t lose their charge when left unused. We included five “ready to use” batteries.
