We test 34 supermarket packaged ham products from Don, D'Orsogna, Primo, Coles, Aldi and more. We take a look at their nutritional information and put them to an expert panel in a blind tasting to see which taste best.

  • Our interactive comparison tool below helps you sort by price, taste, nutrition scores or type of ham, depending on what's a priority for you.
  • Our ham buying guide breaks down our test results and tells you more about what's in ham and the different types commonly available in supermarkets.

Products

We tested 34 packaged sliced and shaved hams that are available nationally through at least one of the major supermarket chains, including English, champagne, smoked and honey varieties. Price is based on the price we paid in stores for the specific sized packet (not on special) in October 2019.

Tasting

Three experts tasted the ham samples blind (without knowing the brands) in a randomised order, which was different for each expert.

Scores

The experts independently judged all ham products, scoring each sample for flavour, texture, appearance and aroma. The CHOICE score is made up of taste (90%) and nutrition (10%).
