How we test
All models were tested at an external lab following a method developed by CHOICE, meeting strict quality standards.
Ease of use Our testers consider factors such as
clarity of the instruction manual, feel and comfort of the handset, if
the screen is easy to read and any other special features.
Sound quality They assess speech clarity and
loudness, line noise and background noise reduction on each model, with a
panel of three users making calls in a moderately noisy environment.
Range They take the phones outside a brick house
while the base still has a direct line of sight, to measure how far they
can still have an intelligible conversation.
Battery life They set the phones to talk and
standby (with a 10 day limit on the standby test), and time how long
each setting runs from a full battery. They also time how long the
phones take to recharge.
Extra handset They test how simple and easy is it
to follow instructions and set up the extra handset, as well as
locating the base station.
