Beef and pasta bake

This recipe's suitable for babies aged 6-12 months and toddlers. Beef and pasta bake
It can be frozen.

Ingredients:
1 teaspoon oil
½ onion, peeled and diced
500 g minced beef
1 carrot, peeled and grated
1 cup chopped mushrooms
1 x 420 g can tomato soup
½ cup water
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 cups raw spiral pasta
1 cup grated cheese

  • Heat oil in a frying pan and cook the onion until soft.
  • Add the mince and cook until brown.
  • Stir in the carrot, mushrooms, soup, water and oregano.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Cook pasta, then drain.
  • Place pasta in a 6-cup casserole dish.
  • Spoon over meat mixture and sprinkle with grated cheese.
  • Place in a moderate oven to cook for 15 minutes.

Serves 4
You can cook the bake in one large dish, or in individual ramekins.
Use a smaller sizes of pasta for babies, rather than cutting up the larger spirals. 

Vegetable pasties

This recipe's suitable for babies aged 6-12 months and toddlers. Vegetable pasties

The pasties make ideal party food and can be frozen.

Ingredients:

PASTRY
200 g butter
400 g plain flour
pinch baking powder
1 egg
1 tablespoon cold water

FILLING
1 large potato
½ small onion
½ carrot
½ parsnip
1 small piece pumpkin

  • To make the pastry, rub butter into flour and baking powder until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  • Blend together egg and water. Add to flour mixture and gently mix through until just combined. Refrigerate for an hour.
  • Roll pastry out to a thickness of ¾ cm. Cut circles 10 cm in diameter.
  • Peel and grate all vegetables. Place in a bowl and mix until well combined.
  • Place spoonfuls of vegetable mixture on one edge of pastry and fold pastry over.
  • Press edges firmly to seal and place on a baking tray.
  • Bake in a moderate oven for 30 minutes or until pastry is golden.

Makes 2 dozen little pasties
As an alternative 125 g minced beef can be added to the vegetable mix for traditional Cornish pasties.

Daniel's nibblies

This recipe's suitable to toddlers aged at least 12 months and makes great party food.

SWEET Daniel's nibblies
½ cup yoghurt sultanas
¼ cup coconut fruits
½ cup puffed corn
½ cup apricot slice, sliced
¼ cup chopped dried apple
SAVOURY
½ cup each soya crisps, peaz (extruded dried green peas), potato twists, rice crisps, soya chips, sultanas

  • Toss ingredients together and store in an airtight container.

Use as required. They will keep fresh for approximately 1 week—if they last that long.
All the ingredients are generally available in health food shops and major supermarkets in the self-serve selection area. Use the quantities as a guide and include some of your toddler's favourites.
