01.The big retailers have had their say, isn't it time you had yours?
A coalition of large retailers claims consumers are shopping on overseas websites to dodge the 10% GST on Australian bought products.
CHOICE disagrees, arguing that consumers are driven online by high prices, limited range and poor customer service in stores. Most consumers shop online to secure the best deal and best service.
Instead of pouring money into a campaign aimed at pressuring the government to lower the $1000 GST threshold, CHOICE believes big retailers should be raising their game. The focus should be on encouraging customers back into stores, not on discouraging them from searching for the best deal.
CHOICE believes Australia needs a strong, dynamic, exciting retail industry: one that offers consumers great variety, competitive prices and exceptional service. Consumers benefit from a retail environment that embraces both online and in-store shopping.
We want to hear from you. Head to the comments page and tell us why you shop online. What savings have you made online? What can retailers do to make your in-store shopping experience better?
