01.Introduction
Test results for ten combination microwave ovens with convection mode and grill, priced from $714 to $2959.
We’ve all relied on the humble microwave oven to make our lives easier — defrosting meat, heating up takeaways, and the occasional attempt at cooking a simple meal. But if you’re looking to replace an old faithful with one that can do more, a combination microwave would be a great addition to your main oven — and a handy time and energy saver as well.
The combination microwaves on test offer three cooking functions: microwave cooking, convection cooking and a grill element used for toasting and browning. This means you can use two or three of these functions to cook a meal.
To assess their performance, we defrosted mince and a whole chicken, cooked broccoli, baked scones, roasted a chook, reheated quiche and toasted bread. We also looked at ease of use and cleaning.
