Valco Stroller Roller
The Stroller Roller Universal Travel Bag from Valco Baby is said to make transporting your stroller easier.
It makes use of the stroller’s wheels and will give your stroller a tidy look when it’s folded up and packed away for travelling.
The bag is compatible with most three and four wheel strollers - some models are listed on the tag but the Stroller Roller will fit most average sized strollers when folded to their smallest size. So if you’re after one of these, test it out first to make sure it will fit your particular model.
Time consuming set-up
Before you can use the bag, depending on the type of stroller you have, you may need to disassemble the front wheel(s), separate removable seats from the frame and adjust components like handles and canopies to their most compact position.
If you’re only packing your stroller for a short trip, this process of disassembling your stroller could become tiresome.
Our tester, Antonio Bonacruz, said the Stroller Roller was only OK when it comes to packing and unpacking.
A series of flaps and straps are used to enclose and secure the stroller. All straps are adjustable in length to cater for different sized strollers and to enable a snug fit for all.
You’ll need to familiarise yourself with the process, but still it could take up to 10 to 15 minutes to pack your stroller and 5 to 10 minutes to unpack and reassemble (if needed). If you’re only using this for a short trip, spending up to 25 minutes packing and unpacking your stroller is hardly ideal.
If the wheels of your stroller roll freely, then the stroller roller will be easy to move around. However, it doesn’t lighten the load – in fact it adds an extra 1.5kg. There is only one handle on one end and nothing on the side – so if you need to lift the bag it could be difficult and awkward.
CHOICE can only see the value in this accessory if you travel regularly by air or other long haul trips. It keeps your stroller neatly packed away, however the fabric material would provide little protection against baggage handling. You’ll need to make sure any removable parts are put away securely to ensure they don’t fall out and tighten all straps and flaps, any that are left loose could tangle and snag with other objects in the baggage handling system.
The Stroller Roller does a good job at keeping your stroller packed away neatly. However if your stroller is one that needs to be disassembled and assembled every time you want to use it, it becomes time consuming and may leave you thinking it’s not worth the effort. If you’re using it when travelling by air make sure all components are firmly secured – you don’t want to get to your destination to realize you’ve lost the wheels to your stroller along the way.
