Home cover falls into two categories: defined events or accidental damage.
• Accidental damage policies cover all events except for those specifically excluded or restricted in the policy wording. They generally cover events such as fire and storm but also cover other events that may be harder to define, like putting your foot through the roof or having the lounge room repainted by your kids in permanent marker.
• Defined events policy wording is explicit about what it covers. If it's not mentioned, assume you're not covered. Coverage generally includes fire and explosion, impact damage, lightning and earthquake. Many policies, but not all, also cover storm damage, flood, earthquake, tsunami and impact damage.
