Comments
Acer's computer is small and efficient, though it comes with plenty of pre-installed software that you will probably not need, and it isn't all that speedy. Look out for it if you want a basic computer with a DVD burner. It can also be used as a monitor.
The 21.5-inch version of Apple's iMac scored similarly to the 27-inch version. It also has an excellent screen that our panelists loved. It performs almost at the same level as the 27-inch version, though it does have less powerful graphics and sound.
Apple's 2017 version of the 27-inch iMac has a familiar design and build quality, but comes with faster processing and a better screen than the 2016 version. In particular, our panelists loved the brightness, colour reproduction, and excellent handling of reflections, despite the glossy finish.
The ASUS Zen all-in-one is suitable for general home tasks. You get good processing performance and plenty of RAM, but its hard drive is relatively slow, which can affect how quickly programs and files load.
You might be used to seeing Intel in the majority of computers sold at mainstream retailers, but don't dismiss this Dell Inspiron just because it has an AMD Ryzen processor installed. In fact, this computer topped our CPU speed benchmarks for this test. It also comes with beefy graphics, which means it can be used to run some of the latest games.
An Intel Core i7 CPU makes this HP Pavilion fast enough to run multiple processor-intensive tasks, or undertake lots of multi-tasking, but overall it is let down by some awkward design points including ports under the screen's bezel that are difficult to access, and a highly reflective glossy screen.
Standout features on Lenovo's 23-inch all-in-one include Intel Core i7 processor, a very thin screen bezel, a matte screen that is also a touchscreen, a swivelling stand, fast solid-state storage, and a webcam that can be used with Windows Hello for facial recognition login.
Microsoft's 28-inch Surface Studio has a standout screen that allows it to tilt almost flat on the desk. It's ideal for drawing, sketching, and painting, and it ships with a pen that traverses the screen smoothly. However, the specs are not impressive for the price; the mid-range graphics card in particular is a generation old, and the CPU is not high-end either.
Pioneer Computers has nothing to do with Pioneer the audio maker. The brand has been around for many years and offers highly customisable PCs. In this case, the visual similarity to the iMac is obvious, but without the same build quality. However, it has a super-large (32”) screen and plenty of speed from the built-in NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics adapter, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD.
