As a senior campaigns and policy adviser at CHOICE, I get to work across the breadth of consumer issues. When I started I was focused on making the private health insurance system better for people and continue to do so. Over time I've worked on additional issues including pet food safety regulations, improving the labelling and testing of hand sanitiser during COVID-19, and have recently been taking on more work related to consumers and the environment.
Immediately before starting at CHOICE I was working for a national disability rights organisation, People with Disability Australia. I was an advocacy projects manager and my work centred on housing and social security. I was also lucky enough to work with CHOICE's campaigns and media teams on some issues facing renters who have a disability. Before that I was the policy adviser for ACON, where I worked on a broad range of issues from discrimination to the regulation of medicines and medical devices and mental health issues. I was also a volunteer consumer health advocate with the Cancer Council NSW and Cancer Voices NSW, and am currently on the board of the Tenants Union of NSW, which I joined in 2018.
I had heard great things about working at CHOICE from people I knew who worked there before me. It's an organisation that has achieved improvements in consumer rights and safety and knows how to use its unique set of resources to continue to improve consumer rights from many different angles. Plus it gave me a chance to work on health access issues by focusing on private health insurance.
I'm passionate about people getting a fair go and helping people play their part in making a better world. CHOICE does this so well and I feel proud to be able to be involved in this important work especially when it comes to people accessing the health care they need.
