We've collated the most recent set of crowdsourced data on electric cars to give you guidance on real-world experiences with electric vehicle range, battery performance, efficiency and running costs so we can tell you which models:

  • have the best warranty
  • have the longest range
  • are the most efficient
  • are the quickest to charge
  • are the cheapest to run.

We also show on-road costs (excluding dealer delivery) for each state, whether there are subsidies, the car numbers expected for Australia based on the forecast, and their claims.

Check out our EV journey tool to see how far you can get, how much it'll cost you in running costs and charging details.

Electric car prices change on a regular basis, and these prices are correct as of August 2023.

We haven't recommended any cars and strongly suggest you test drive any car you're interested in based on this guidance, as everyone's experience is going to be different based on which car they had previously and their expectations.

CHOICE does not test electric cars due to their relative expense, but our members have been asking us for advice on them for some time, so while we don't currently have a laboratory to test these products in, we've partnered with Australian-owned EV data aggregator carloop to collate the most recent information.
