Consumers International World Congress 2007

'Holding Corporations to Account'
Luna Park, Sydney, Australia
29-31 October 2007

Consumers International (CI) chose Sydney, Australia as the location for its 18th World Congress. The 3-day event brought together the rich diversity of the global consumer movement to debate, celebrate and campaign for the shared concerns of consumers everywhere.

CHOICE played a major role at the Congress. As well as being a co-host, we presentations, wrote news reports, media releases, blog entries, made audio recordings of every speech, published some presentations, and carried out video interviews with delegates and key speakers.

Background: About the CI Congress

Never before have global consumer demands for corporate transparency, accountability and responsibility been so pressing. Whether it's unethical marketing, sustainable consumption, credit and debt, or what we eat — consumers are losing trust in companies and are calling for change.

The Consumers International (CI) World Congress 2007 promises to encapsulate the critical importance of these issues.

The 3-day event will focus on the need for corporate accountability within CI's key campaign areas:

Delegates will hear from internationally renowned experts, engage in insightful debates, attend action-orientated workshops, and even participate in direct campaigning.

To encourage debate on these important issues, we've set up a CHOICE blog where delegates, journalists and consumers can share their views on subjects raised at the Congress.
