Blower vac reviews

CHOICE tests eight blowers and two blower vacs, including models from Ryobi, Black & Decker, Victa and more.

Last updated: 5th November 2014

If you live next door to someone using one of these things and you're trying to have a nice quiet weekend, you'd be forgiven for thinking they don't blow – they suck! In fact, they do both. Our testing shows that blower vacs do pick up the gardening debris effectively and mulch it into something useful.

In our latest test we review eight cordless blowers (with no vacuum function) and two electric upright blower vacs (with the form factor of an upright vacuum cleaner).

In most yards with only a moderate quantity of leaves to clear up, a bit of exercise with a rake or broom may be a better option. In the past when we tested blower vacs around our office building we had many complaints from neighbours about the noise, so make sure you really need one before you start shopping.
