A good rice cooker will cook your rice perfectly every time, while also being easy to use and clean. Some rice cookers can cook grains like quinoa and oats, with a few models even giving you the option to sear and sauté food in the pot.

Our test results will tell you which rice cookers:

  • produce perfectly cooked rice every time
  • can cook other grains like quinoa, as well as porridge and soup
  • are the easiest to use
  • are easier to clean (including which ones make a mess)
  • have the most features.

Shopping links on the CHOICE website

CHOICE is an independent, nonprofit organisation dedicated to helping consumers. Clicking a link will take you to a retailer's website to shop. While we make money if you buy through some retailer links, this doesn't influence any of our rankings. 100% of the money we make goes straight back into our nonprofit mission. We're currently testing this service and will consider providing more shopping links in the future. Tell us what you think.

A sealed lid usually means less of a mess on the kitchen bench, but these units can be a bit more complex to clean, having an inner lid that's removable and an outer one that usually isn't. The steam vents in these also need to be cleaned – some have removable vents, but many do not.
