Q. I've seen reports in the news about Thermomix owners getting burned because of a faulty part. I've had no problems (so far) with my TM31 model, and I use it often, but now I'm worried about getting burned as well.

A. The faulty sealing ring on some TM31 models was listed for recall in 2014. The affected models have the service numbers 124231xx – 142031xx. If you're at all concerned that your machine could be affected, contact Thermomix customer support.

The company also recommends that all TM31 owners replace the sealing ring every two years.

Most of the burns appear to have happened when the machine was mixing hot liquids at high speeds. Thermomix advises that it's best practice to reduce the speed setting to one, then wait three seconds before opening the lid.
