At the cost of high fees and soaring interest rates, some credit cards are offering ‘free’ or complimentary travel insurance as an additional feature. There’s no denying this ready-to-go cover is handy when planning a holiday, but can you depend on it, or is it a better idea to go looking for a standalone policy?

We analysed 59 credit cards from 17 institutions offering complimentary international travel insurance, including cards from:

- CUA
- HSBC
- IMB
- Macquarie
- NAB
- St George
- Suncorp
- Virgin Money
- Westpac
We analyse each PDS and survey insurers for additional information. Scoring is weighted as follows:
- Medical, 40%
- Cancellations, 25%
- Baggage, 20%
- Liability, 10%
- Excess and other services, 5%
