What our trialists said
CHOICE’s Home Testers rated the cleaning and treak-free ability of two Finish tablets, the PowerBall All-in-1 and Max-in-1, significantly better than the rest. Their overall scores are 89% and 85% respectively. However, these tablets are also the most expensive products on test except for the “eco-friendly” Ecover tablets.
Trialists comments include:
- “Managed to clean a frying pan with burnt-on sauce spotlessly”
- “I was very surprised at the results and will use this product in the future”.
There was no statistical difference in performance between the remaining products on trial (except one), and most performed reasonably well, with scores ranging from 76% to 83%. Tablets and powders are scattered throughout this range, with no clear indication of tablets performing better than powders.
The only other standout was the lowest-rating Black and Gold powder detergent which rate significantly lower for performance than all others on test. Said one trialist:
- “Disappointed that it left plates dirty when they were put in fairly clean.”
Dissolvable wrappers
Three tablets come with handy dissolvable wrappers which are placed into the detergent dispenser. The wrappers are water-soluble and should quickly dissolve, releasing the detergent. They are Finish Powerball Max-in-1, Morning Fresh Complete with Hydrofilm and Woolworths Select 8-in-1 action, but only the Finish dissolved all of the time. The Morning Fresh Hydrofilm and Woolworths Select wrappers dissolved during most of the time but part of the detergent stayed intact for some washes; so this was likely to have lowered the average performance scores.
