01.Introduction
We review 16 food processors, priced from $100 to $799.
A food processor can slice, dice, chop, shred, grate, zest, mash, purée, mix, knead, grind and emulsify. And while it’s true all these things can be done with a chopping board and knife or a grater, hand whisk and so on, food processors are much quicker.
Most food processors on test have a large capacity, so bulk preparation is the key – process extra and freeze for later. Our What to buy list also includes compact options if bulk is not your priority.

How we test
- Our home economist, Fiona Mair, assesses how well the food processors slice carrots and celery, chop breadcrumbs, shred cheese, knead shortcrust pastry and emulsify mayonnaise.
- She also looks at how easy it is to use the controls, read the labels, lock and release the bowls and attachments, store the unit with accessories and clean.
