Lawn Edger Reviews

We review four petrol and electric lawn edgers priced from $139 to $449.

Through our rigorous testing, we reveal which lawn edgers:

  • perform the best at edging
  • are the neatest
  • are the easiest to manoeuvre on a range of surfaces, and
  • are the easiest to adjust.

On this page:

Lawn edgers separate your lawn from a path, driveway or other concrete surface. Because they lock into line and don’t wobble much they leave a cleaner, more professional separation than a lawn trimmer or lawnmower can.

For more information about lawnmowers, see Backyard.

Petrol or Electric Lawn Edger?

The Victa Commando CE254 petrol model lawn edger is ideal for larger gardens where your mains power supply is located too far to use an electric edger, though it does cost noticeably more than the electric models.

Brands and models tested

How we test

Performance Our tester, Peter Horvarth, assesses the performance of the edgers by using them on a concrete path next to a grassy area and also against a vertical wall, scoring their effectiveness at edging and the neatness of the edge.

Ease of use He also assesses them for ease of manoeuvring on a concrete path, on grass around garden beds, handle comfort, visibility while edging, ease of using the controls, vibration and blade height adjustment.
