Following the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab to market is the ViewSonic ViewPad 7. This 7-inch “Smart Pad with phone”, as Viewsonic calls it, joins the Samsung Galaxy Tab as the vanguard of a wave of portable tablet computers which will hit our shores this year.
The ViewPad 7 has a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, microSD and USB ports for expansion and built-in Wi-Fi, but can also take a SIM card to connect to mobile broadband. It also has a 3 Megapixel rear camera (but no flash) and a 0.3Mp front camera for video calls. Like the Galaxy Tab, the ViewPad 7 is powered by Android 2.2, known as Froyo” This is a smartphone operating system rather than one built specifically for tablets.
Any new tablet computer hitting the market this year will inevitably be compared to the category-defining Apple iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab, so we took the ViewPad 7 for a spin to see how it compares.
