01.World environment day marks awards
Thirteen companies were today recognised for their achievements in the NSW Sustainability Advantage Program.
CHOICE signed on to the program, along with more than 220 other companies, to work towards developing ways to focus efforts within the workplace to produce the best possible results for sustainability.
Today’s winners were awarded the title of “Bronze Partner”, which includes those companies that have been involved with the program at least one year and have satisfied certain requirements. Together they have reduced annual waste to landfill by 17,100 tonnes a year, saved 170 million litres of water and 13,000 tonnes of carbon pollution – the equivalent of 260 million black balloons in the government’s new black balloon information campaign.
They include Converga, De Bortoli Wines, Focus Press, Inghams Enterprises, Koppers Australia, Ontera Modular Carpets, Marquis Bathroom Products, Rondo Building Services, Schindler, Sydney Markets, TAFE NSW – Northern Sydney Institute, Tarkett and Austral Bricks.
As part of the program CHOICE has committed to sustainable strategies that include a Workplace Social Responsibility Committee to promote awareness of issues such as paper consumption and commuting. New printing systems are also expected to reduce paper use by 60%.
Other signatories to the program include the RTA, Commonwealth Bank, universities, charities and many more.
