01.Retailers also to stop accepting gift cards

As of 3 April 2011, Borders and Angus & Robertson booksellers will no longer accept gift cards. Consumers in possession of gift cards are urged to use them before that date.

On 31st March, Angus & Robertson booksellers announced they will be closing 12 stores. This is in addition to the 37 stores that have already closed. A full list of stores closing can be found here.

The retailers went into voluntary administration on 17 February 2011, and have been accepting gift cards on the proviso that the total purchase is double the face value of the gift card. Now under the restructure, the businesses will stop accepting gift cards until both businesses are in a financially stable position.

Along with the restructure, 37 Angus & Robertson booksellers and one Borders store have closed.
