01.Free repair service closes soon

In October 2005 Canon announced a free repair services to address a problem with the CCD image sensor used in some Canon digital cameras and digital video cameras. The offer currently exists for some models, but Canon will soon cease providing the service. Once the offer expires no products will be eligible for free repairs. While the closing dates do vary, depending on the model, no free services will be available after 30 April 2011.

Canon described the problem as such, "When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all".

Consumers who suspect their camera may have CCD image sensor issues should contact Canon Australia Services and Support on 13 13 83 (local call). Information regarding the service, and the various closing dates, can also be found on the Canon website.
