01.Compatability with Google dongle could mean easier access
Local TV and movie streaming service EzyFlix.TV has announced it is the first to support Google Chromecast, although not all content is available at present.
Chromecast, an HDMI dongle that lets you stream content from an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet directly to a TV, launched in the US in July last year and landed in Australia in late May.
EzyFlix has reportedly outpaced local competitors including Quickflix, Foxtel’s Presto and the ABC’s iView, which have indicated they will also support Chromecast. The move also makes EzyFlix the first Australian service to offer UltraViolet movie streaming via Chromecast ahead of rival JB HiFi. Foxtel has said Presto will support Chromecast in July this year.
EzyFlix chief Craig White told the industry publication ausdroid.net that Chromecast “is a game changer for the consumer because it delivers convenience, content availability and value”, adding that EzyFlix’s technical specifications for delivery “have been given the big tick by the major Hollywood studios”.
EzyFlix.TV on Chromecast will be available on PC and Mac, and the EzyFlix.TV app is downloadable from the iTunes Store and Google Play for iOS and Android. Chromecast is compatible with Android, iOS, Windows, Mac OS X and Google Chrome OS devices.
