It’s the end of an era as Vodafone Australia announced that Crazy John's, the popular mobile phone business will close for good on 30 September.

Vodafone has said that it will be contacting all Crazy John's customers to remind them of the final closure and to discuss options for the future. However, a statement on the Crazy John's website states that it won't be possible for the carrier to replicate the all the current plans offered by Crazy John's, which is well known for heavy discounting.

The irreverent retailer was known for innovating in the Australian mobile phone dealer market, introducing aggressive discounting strategies such as one dollar mobile phones, cash back incentives and two for one deals. It gained its moniker, Crazy John's, thanks to what were thought to be the ‘crazy’ marketing deals set up by company founder and owner John Ilhan. The retailer, which started offering phone connectivity via the Vodafone network, was purchased by Vodafone Australia after John Ilhan died suddenly in 2007.

Since then the mobile phone giant has been in the process of streamlining the businesses under a single Vodafone brand and the shopfronts have slowly been rebranded as Vodafone stores.

Customers with any questions or concerns can go to any Vodafone store or call 1800 086 066.
