Video: Hip pocket focus on energy
CHOICE outlines some of the savings that can be made by considering a more energy efficient fridge, washing machine, TV or CFL next time yours is due for replacement.
Energy prices are on the rise around Australia, including a 17.3 per cent hike for NSW residents from 1 July. Luckily, there are steps you can take to cut your energy use and save on energy bills.
In this video, we take you behind the scenes at the CHOICE labs for expert advice from our testers on appliance energy savings.
Looking at refrigerators, washing machines, lighting and TVs, our
CHOICE experts give you practical advice on how to make energy-saving
purchasing decisions with a focus on hip-pocket costs.
Many actions for saving energy are low-cost or no-cost, while
others such as purchasing super-efficient appliances or installing solar
hot water can provide savings over time that outweigh their up-front
costs. For example, choosing a high-efficiency TV, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge could save you more than $4000 in combined energy and water running costs over 10 years compared with low-efficiency models.
CHOICE has also joined the 10% Challenge,
helping Australian households and businesses take simple actions to
reduce their energy and fuel use by 10 per cent and save on bills.
