In March the Reserve Bank brought in reforms designed to stop companies from ripping off Australians with excessive credit card surcharges.

However since these reforms were introduced, the big offenders such as Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Tiger Airways and Cabcharge have continued to snub Australians.

CHOICE asked consumers to share there experience by complete an online poll in May this year. Of the over 1690 people who completed the poll, 80% who reported using a credit card in the past three months said they paid a credit card surcharge. Of these, a whopping 80% said they have noticed either no change or an increase in the amount they were charged in the period since the Reserve Bank's reforms came into place.

We're continuing to run our campaign by calling on consumers to dob in other companies with excessive surcharges. While the actual costs of processing credit cards vary between retailers and across different card types, the average merchant service fee for MasterCard and Visa is estimated at 0.86%.

Remember that Visa and MasterCard are supposed to be policing these reforms, so be sure to contact them with your examples as well. Let us know how this goes in our comments section, or on our Facebook page.
