This year, banks will rake in almost $1 billion in fees from consumers. Statistics released by the Reserve Bank in June 2010 show major banks have recouped the income they lost after cutting transaction account penalty fees, such as overdrawn account fees and direct debit dishonours, with new penalty fee revenue from credit cards and personal loans. And remember, you can always switch banks if you feel you're getting a raw deal.

Here's what you can do to make you're not paying more than you should.
